Beta test?  Reply with quote

With all the new features going into Return to Arms, I'm wondering if Sony Online Entertainment is planning on a beta test for the online portion? It seems like there might be enough time to do one this time around, and I think it would help in two ways:

1) Obviously there is a large testing base to catch bugs and such. Could be very important now that characters are stored server-side.

2) Word-of-mouth. If people get their hands on the online portion a little bit early, they'll be able to tell friends how much better this interface is than in the original game. Could be a great sales tactic.

I doubt any Snowblind employees will be able to comment on this at all, but I thought I'd toss it out there just the same. With Moster Hunter in beta now, and Hot Shots Golf Fore and Ratchet & Clank: Up Your Arsenal coming up soon, it seems like Return to Arms would be a perfect beta candidate!

This may be old news for some, but on the official SOE Return to Arms board an admin posted that there will be a beta, and more details will be coming sometime in October most likely.

I'm assuming the beta is in SOE's hands, so I doubt Snowblind will have much to say on the matter. I'm also guessing SOE will be using their normal beta selection process of picking from people who are registered Underground members and have registered their network adapter.

Glad to hear there'll be a beta, though. Can't wait to see how the online portion turns out.

Yes, Sony is in charge of the beta, and in charge of all formal testing too.
