Will the new chracters be unique?  Reply with quote

I saw the videos and interview at IGN and was dissapointed to see that some of the Var Shiar's skills appear to be the same as the Barbarian (whirlwind, and something like ancestral call). It also seems this character is gonna be melee based with throwing skills. Is he really gonna offer that different experience to the Barbarian or Ranger? Does the game need yet another melee based fighter? If your gonna have lots of melee dependant characters then at least make them have their own unique form of melee like the claw/charge skill based Assasin and spear and Javelin Amazon from Diablo 2 LOD or the unarmed Monk from BG:DA2.

I really hope the other chracter is gonna be something completely different. I expect most of the people round here never saw D2 LOD's cast of characters cause thats what you call a diverse selection. The Necromancer there is amazing he can summon whole gangs which can be powered up, curse, fire and cage enemies the Druid shapheshifts, has auras a different set of summons and spells you have a dedicated magic user and ranged and melee specialists. The point is every chracter is really deep and plays very differently from pretty much the beginning. Can the same really be said of CON or it's sequel?

well i know that the chars i used in CON played differently. i used the Barbarian. then i used the elf. then i used the wizard. and they played very differently. just because of what each char had for feats. the barbarian i used critcal and two weapons. the elf i used my bow alot and the fire arrow. and the wizard was a constant barrage of ice bolts

Those 3 characters do seem different but what about Cleric, Shadow Knight and Barbarian? The SK and Cleric in particular don't have powerful enough spells to avoid constant melee combat right? That means you have 3 chracters who rely on melee as their primary and if a 4th is added that won't be good at all.

no my friend played as the cleric and he used magic all the time. the hammer and the light beam or what ever he used alot. as for the Sk he just used the two handed weapons, and he would summon a undead every now and then

Well I haven't actually played CON (since nobody can be bothered to release it over here Mad ) but judging what from most people have said and looking at their skill trees both SK and Cleric are mainly melee fighters with magic enhancements (most of which aren't even that strong untill late in the game apparently) . If I take BGDA as an example the Archer there had rather weak ranged attacks so he had to rely more than 50% of the time on melee especially in single player making him feel only a bit different from the Dwarf rather than completely so. I wonder if SK and Cleric are the same or even more reliant on getting in close and striking the same way as a Barbarian.

In any case the game would really benefit from something completley different like a proper summoning + magic class or a shapshifter with a range of upgradable special attacks and magic for different forms. Having deep and varied chracters in addition to a range of tough varied enemies is what helps replay value so much.

well when i was the archer my friend was a SK, and it was funny his attack with his axe was as much as my bow. so all i would do is even before i stepped into a room i would shoot like 10-12 arrows in and we would go in and there would be every guy layin on the ground with a arrow in him. well thats an effective way to piss of ur partner. BUt the place where archers are really effective is in the sand temples because in there the mages are a pain and a good bow will take them out in one hit

I was actually referring to the Archer in Baldurs Gate Dark Alliance who used to fire far too slowly and run out of arrows too often, which made him rely on melee attacks alot. It looks from the trailers and comments as if the Ranger in CON can fire alot faster and use his bow effectively most of the time. He seems a much improved character.

yeah he fires fast. and if u put the partly stone on it he fires even faster. And i dont think ive run out of arrows. and even if u do u can always just use a gate scroll and warp back to the shop. then u just buy more. and the thing i like about CON is that u dont really have to worry about money. after like the first act and a half. then u have good enough stuff and u have picked up enough weapons and armor not to even worry about money. like the one time i Beat the game started on the next difficulty and half way through i had over a million dollars. and i play a two player so i get even less money

You might want to keep checking 1up.com for the latest screens and skill trees of all the classes. In the latest OPM there are places in the preview that says they are up on the site but unfortunately i don't think they have updated it for next months OPM yet. I think it's kind of worthless that a magazine is out to subscribers and out on newstands yet you can't take full advantage of it.

As for the Vah Shir there are many pics of it and videos for that matter. Here are some places with the most pics.

http://gameinformer.com/News/Screens/ScreenShots.htm?CS_pid={E1690148-BAE6-4005-BFCB-9370F2E9E139}

Try and watch the trailers on the movie page. You might not be able to access them through Internet Explorer so try and using a different browser like the Real Player one. Don't ask why this is the case... It's worth watching if you are lucky enough to get the chance.

Happy viewing...

If you happen to have AIM or something feel free to IM me at EvenStrangerX and i can just send you the file if you're having trouble with the site. If you can, give me your AIM sn so i can look you up also.

Sorry i should have been more specific. OPM stands for Official Playstation Magazine. You know the one that comes with a playable demo every month? Anway there's a big story on RTA in next months issue which is already out on newstands. It's got a pic of the Iksar shaman and yeah it does grow as big as Innorruk. The Iksar look great from the screens. It doesn't have robes or anything. It's got cool looking armor and can use swords.

Check it out...
