SUMMARY OF POSITION
WB Games Inc. seeks a Director of Online Design to participate in developer due diligence activities to assess online design talent, pipelines, process, and technology. In this role, you will review and provide feedback to WBIE Producers on all product online design plans, schedules and ongoing online design deliverables for all milestone drops. Collaborate across internal divisions to ensure our development partners are using industry standard online design processes and tools for each product by staying abreast of state-of-the-art online design practices and working closely with the Design, Art, Engineering, and Production groups inside WBIE/WBG. Define and spearhead the creation of online design services used for development support. In addition, the candidate should be able to troubleshoot online design pipeline and process issues, and have a firm grasp of design team organization and management principles. The ideal candidate has proven online design experience on at least one popular micro-transaction based game. Preference for candidates with experience designing iOS/mobile and/or SNG (Facebook) titles as well as experience designing online features for core AAA PC or console products. Experience designing “connected” experiences between SNG, iOS/mobile and console games a plus!
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Work with WBIE staff to assess development partner's Online Design talent, process, pipelines, and tech to identify risks to project goals and provide clear mitigation recommendations to address these risks.
  • Reviews development partner's staff, org and management structure, plans, pipelines, processes, tech, budgets, metrics, builds, schedules, documentation, tools, assets, etc. as necessary through on-site visits and reviews of delivered builds and documentation.
  • Provides creative and feasibility analysis through due diligence and milestone assessment reports that highlight key strengths, risks, and recommendations for WBIE Production.
  • Represents Development Planning Group’s Online Design concerns for all projects.
  • Identify online design tools, programs, 3rd party software, and/or hardware that could be helpful to our development partners and make recommendations as necessary to assist them in achieving success.
  • As needed, identify and spearhead the concept of online design services for WBIE development partners, both internal and external.
  • Ensure development partners and teams have sufficient management bandwidth to incorporate online design outsourcing into their development pipeline, and make recommendations on best practices.
  • Assist development partners in selecting online design subcontractors and approve online design subcontractors on WBIE’s behalf as required per project.
  • Coordinate between development teams (internal and external) to facilitate the sharing of information, assets, services, or ideas that may be helpful to another team.
  • Interact with executives and management to keep abreast of WBIE long-term objectives and adjust short-term objectives to match.
  • Collaborate across internal divisions to ensure our development partners are implementing industry-standard online design processes for each product.
  • Establish, maintain, and enhance company relationships with inside and outside online design resources, third party vendors, and development partners.
  • Participates in departmental meetings to share ideas and concerns.
  • Create a positive, forward-focused work-environment that identifies and prioritizes issues for solution.
  • Mentor internal staff and act as a role model for all development partner producers by emphasizing project goals, organization, and maintaining core focus.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
  • Preferred 4-year BA/BS degree with excellent critique and vocabulary skills.
  • 10 or more years of development experience and five or more years of team lead experience. Must have shipped at least 3 online-focused titles in a senior design role (preferable with at least 1 of these titles being on Xbox 360/PS3 and 1 being on iOS/Facebook).
  • Experience developing micro-transaction based products/features/systems.
  • Experience with metric driven design processes.
  • Prefer someone with experience designing iOS/touch-screen and/or Mobile and/or Facebook/SNG games.
  • Prefer someone with experience designing “connected” games (i.e., Facebook <-> 360/PS3 <-> iOS).
  • Excellent leadership, communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to communicate well with many external partners to facilitate the sharing of ideas and services.
  • Ability to provide clear feedback to both development partners and non-designers.
  • Can define, assess, and communicate principles of online design across all design disciplines.
  • Familiarity with design process and pipeline, outsourcing, management theory, and scheduling of large teams.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and with deadlines.
  • Strong interest in video games.
