WB Games Inc. seeks a Staff FX Artist with advanced, in-depth expertise, to work closely with the Lead FX Artist and Technical Art Director to maintain and create high quality Special Effects assets for the game. Assists the Leads and Directors in helping define process and pipelines along with highest aesthetic goals, with a strong focus on technical trouble shooting and problem solving. This person will have an awareness of the impact of assets on performance as well as researching, developing, and recommending new art tech/design that pushes our quality bar forward. Sets the highest standards for quality, productivity, initiative and teamwork and works to improve the knowledge and performance of others in the department.
  • Creation of cutting edge FX assets for the assigned project, using industry standard 3D and 2D packages as well as proprietary tools.
  • Assistance in R&D efforts for tool enhancements and prototyping of new technology as well as assisting in documenting best practices.
  • Participation across titles and teams to share expertise and refine the look and feel of special game specific visual effects.
  • Mentorship, training and guidance.
  • Optimization of assets to function within technical limitations.
  • BA in art or related field or equivalent experience.
  • Typically has 8+ years of progressively complex game industry experience.
  • Must possess good artistic skills and a working knowledge of 2D/3D art production.
  • At least 2 published games preferably 360 or PS3.
  • Must have worked with a real-time 3d engine.
  • Must be proficient in one or more types of 3D software (Maya, 3D Studio Max, SoftImage).
  • Must be expert with multiple 2D applications, including Adobe AfterEffects, Photoshop, and various similar FX applications.
  • Solid experience and understanding of art pipelines on Xbox 360 and/or PS3, and an interest in finding ways to evolve and improve the FX art creation pipeline.
  • Must have technical proficiency and proven ability to produce efficient real time assets.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, self-management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Must be able to work well within a team, collaborating proactively and productively with others. Willingness to provide and accept direction, innovate and embrace change.
  • Strong interest in computer or video games.
  • Strong 2D digital painting and/or drawing skills.
  • Strong understanding of modern real-time 3d engines.
  • Strong, developed understanding of form and function as it relates to FX
  • Ability to push the visual narrative of the design/product holistically through FX
  • Portfolio/website demonstrating art skills, design sensibilities, and attention to detail.
