WB Games Inc. seeks a Director of Art to participate in developer due diligence activities to assess art talent, pipelines, process, and tech. reviews and provide feedback to WBIE Producers on all product art plans, schedules and ongoing art deliverables for all milestone drops. Collaborate across internal divisions to ensure our development partners are using industry standard art processes and tools for each product by staying abreast of state-of-the-art art practices and working closely with the Design, Art, Engineering, and Production groups inside WBIE/WBG. Defines and spearheads the creation of art services used for development support. Ideal candidate has proven aesthetic direction abilities on at least one AAA 360/PS3 title, can troubleshoot development pipeline and process issues, and has a firm grasp of team organization and management principles.
  • Work with WBIE staff to assess development partner's talent, process, pipelines, and tech to identify risks to project goals and provide clear mitigation recommendations to address these risks.
  • Reviews development partner's staff, org and management structure, plans, pipelines, processes, tech, budgets, metrics, builds, schedules, documentation, tools, assets, etc. as necessary through on-site visits and reviews of delivered builds and documentation.
  • Provides creative and feasibility analysis through due diligence and milestone assessment reports that highlight key strengths, risks, and recommendations for WBIE Production.
  • Represents DPG’s Art concerns for all projects during milestone review meetings.
  • Identify art tools, programs, 3rd party software, and/or hardware that could be helpful to our development partners and make recommendations as necessary to assist them in achieving success.
  • As needed, identify and spearhead the concept of art services for WBIE development partners, both internal and external.
  • Ensure development partners and teams have sufficient management bandwidth to successfully incorporate art outsourcing into their development pipeline, and make recommendations on best practices.
  • Assist development partners in selecting art subcontractors and approve art subcontractors on WBIE’s behalf as required per project.
  • Coordinate between development teams (internal and external) to facilitate the sharing of information, assets, services, or ideas that may be helpful to another team. For example, a “best-practice” of one partner might be shared with another. A contractor that is successful with one partner may be right for another.
  • Interact with executives and management to keep abreast of WBIE long-term objectives and adjust short-term objectives to match.
  • Collaborate across internal divisions to ensure our development partners are implementing industry-standard art processes for each product.
  • Establish, maintain, and enhance company relationships with inside and outside art resources, third party vendors, and development partners.
  • Participates in departmental meetings to share ideas and concerns.
  • Create a positive, forward-focused work-environment that indentifies and prioritizes issues for solution.
  • Mentor internal staff and act as a role model for all development partner producers by emphasizing project goals, organization, and maintaining core focus.
  • Minimum 4-year BFA degree or equivalent with excellent critique and vocabulary skills.
  • 10 or more years of development experience and five or more years of team lead or manager experience. Must have shipped at least
  • 3 titles (with at least 1 being an Xbox 360 or PS3 title) in a senior art role.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to communicate well with many external partners to facilitate the sharing of ideas and services.
  • Ability to provide clear visual and written aesthetic review and feedback to both development partners and non-artists (WBIE Production).
  • Can define, assess, and communicate principles of visual design across all art disciplines.
  • Familiarity with art process and pipeline, outsourcing, management theory, and scheduling of large teams.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and with deadlines.
  • Strong interest in computer or video games.
