SUMMARY OF POSITION
WB Games Inc. seeks a Senior FX Artist to work closely with the Lead FX artist and Technical Art Director to maintain and create high quality Special Effects assets for the game. This is an individual contributor position that designs and creates FX work for assigned aspects of products, as well as assisting Leads in helping to define process and pipelines with a strong focus on technical trouble shooting and problem solving.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Using industry standard 3D and 2D packages as well as proprietary tools, to create FX assets for their assigned development project. These assets could include thing as simple as a smoke particle systems all the way up to a fully destroyed cityscape.
  • Implement created cinematics into game engine. Test and assure FX run efficiently and within content resource parameters.
  • Develop original concepts for FX based on specific needs of the cinematics department. Will need to work with game teams to assure content matches the art direction of the game.
  • Assists in R&D efforts for tools enhancements and prototyping of new technology.
  • Participates in departmental meetings to share personal ideas and refine the look and feel of special game specific visual effects. Ensure that the high-quality bar established by the Art Director and Lead Artist is maintained by themselves and their team.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
  • A BA in art or related field or equivalent experience.
  • At least 5+ years experience as an artist in the industry.
  • At least 1 published game preferably 360 or PS3.
  • Must possess good artistic skills and a working knowledge of 2D/3D art production.
  • Must be proficient in one or more types of 3D software (Maya, 3D Studio Max, SoftImage).
  • Must be proficient with multiple 2D applications, including Adobe AfterEffects, Photoshop, and various similar applications.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and deadlines.
  • Strong interest in computer or video games.
  • Strong 2D digital painting and/or drawing skills.
  • Strong understanding of modern real-time 3d engines.
  • Solid experience and understanding of art pipelines on Xbox 360 and/or PS3, and an interest in finding ways to evolve and improve the art creation pipeline.
  • Solid organization skills with adherence to file structures, naming conventions and other established protocols.
  • Solid understanding of form, shape, structure and silhouette.
  • Excellent ability to self-manage and meet deadlines.
  • Portfolio/website demonstrating your art skills, design sensibilities, and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work well in a team environment and redo/iterate work until it's right.
