WB Games Inc. seeks an Artist/Animator on our Cinematics Team to design and implement cinematic sequences that will be used in various game projects. The job requires a deep understanding of film and how to use visual storytelling to clearly communicate a sequence of events. The employee will be required to develop storyboards, 2D and 3D animatics, and implementing the final cameras in a cinematic sequence, though not necessarily all three on one task. Helping direct motion capture sessions with the director of Cinematics will occur, so a familiarity with motion capture direction is preferable.
  • 2D Storyboarding cinematics for game projects.
  • Developing animatics (both 2D and 3D) for game projects.
  • Responsible for rigging and animating 3D character models in a realistic game, including working with motion capture data, hand keyframed animations and facial/lip synch animations. Working with the in house toolset, helping set up characters and rigs, while also making characters and objects game ready.
  • Implementing the 3D cameras for in-game cinematics.
  • Participates in departmental meetings to share personal ideas and define the look and feel of areas and characters.
  • Must possess a 2 or 4-year 2D/3D art degree with an emphasis in character keyframe animation as well as camera animation or equivalent work experience.
  • 3-6 years working as an animator in the entertainment industry with a focus on character and camera animation.
  • 3+ years experience with industry standard 3-D package (3D Studio Max preferred but Maya, XSI acceptable). Especially as it pertains to animating cameras and characters.
  • Must be proficient in one or more types of video editing software (Final Cut Pro, Premiere Pro, Avid, Sony Vegas, After FX).
  • Ability to adapt to new technology.
  • Solid eye for frame composition and narrative flow.
  • Clear understanding of cinematic camera direction.
  • Solid organization skills with adherence to file structures, naming conventions and other established protocols.
  • Solid experience and understanding of art pipelines on Xbox 360 and/or PS3, and an interest in finding ways to evolve and improve the cinematic creation pipeline.
  • Excellent ability to self-manage and meet deadlines.
  • Must be able to work well within a team. Willingness to provide and accept direction, and the ability to embrace change. Ability to collaborate productively with others.
  • Must be able to buy into the established art vision of the game and ensure this is delivered in its entirety at the end of the project.
  • Must have an active, passionate interest in current video games and film to help drive cinematics to the next level.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and deadlines.
  • Takes direction well, but is self-driven.
  • Experience with directing voice over talent a plus.
