SUMMARY OF POSITION
WB Games seeks an Art Lead, UI to be responsible for leading a team of UI/UX artists in the creation and implementation of game UI assets of the highest quality. This person will work closely with the Art Directors and Designers of multiple products to design and shape the visual and functional aspects of the game’s interface needs. This may also include UI workflow optimizations and developing new techniques for visual display and information presentation. This person is responsible for maintaining high visual fidelity, competitive aesthetics, logical menu flow, and presenting game information in a clear and understandable manner. This person is also responsible for providing art direction, tasking, feedback and mentorship to the UI team and ensuring that production goals are met.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Design and create UI components as required - menus, stats and inventory screens, in-game HUD elements, etc. to set a quality bar for other artists to follow.
  • Help design, construct, document and enforce pipeline procedures to deliver competitive, cutting edge assets.
  • Coordinate and update production assignments for the UI team.
  • Create, document and communicate guidelines, directories and procedures.
  • Motivate, mentor and inspire UI team, guiding them through various stages of production with clear direction.
  • Regularly review UI assets.
  • Assist the UI programmers in the implementation of UI components.
  • Accountable for UI team deliverables, ensuring that they meet the defined objectives, and scheduled requirements.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
  • BA in art or related field or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ more years of game development art experience with 1+ year as an Art Lead.
  • At least 2 published games preferably as Lead UI Artist on 360 or PS3.
  • Proven excellence in artistic judgment and skill.
  • Proven ability to effectively communicate verbally as well as visually.
  • Expert knowledge of Photoshop, Flash and other 2D packages.
  • Expert knowledge of one or more types of 3D software (Maya, 3DS Max is preferred).
  • Ability to prototype and implement solutions with various tech.
  • Basic Scripting Skills (actionscript, javascript, etc) a plus.
  • Scaleform Experience a plus.
  • Strong sense of Graphic Design and excellent illustration skills.
  • Effective management and motivation of team members.
  • Strong understanding of game development process.
  • Solid experience and understanding of art pipelines.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of current art techniques and development processes.
  • Able to work collaboratively in a team environment, both taking and giving direction.
  • Able to work with programmers and designers to establish UI design and improve existing technology.
  • Able to work well under pressure and deadlines with minimal supervision.
  • Able to provide training and mentoring to character artists.
  • High capacity to learn new tools and research potential technology.
  • Diligence with individual and team tasks, schedule and adherence to budget limitations.
  • Solid organization skills with adherence to optimization and asset management.
  • Positive attitude and a desire to bring new ideas to the team.
  • Traditional art skills and creativity a must.
  • Passion for making and playing great games, with an awareness of current titles and industry trends.
  • Portfolio/website demonstrating your art skills, design sensibilities, and attention to detail.
