Snowblind Studios, a division of WB Games Inc. in Greater Seattle, seeks a Senior Game Designer, Tech. to be responsible for significant contributions to game design, with a focus on technical game systems and scripting. Work with the Lead Designer and programmers to design, implement and maintain game objects, systems and NPCs. Responsible for level-specific implementation of complex scenarios, including logic and scripting. Collaborate with programmers to ensure effective integration of game design, art, animation, and technology. Work closely with programmers and the central technology group to insure appropriate tools and tech are in line with the needs of the project. Help maintain technical GDDs and all other related documentation. Contribute to and create design specifications for features that affect technology efforts. Plan, advise and help manage the design department’s efforts towards meeting technical constraints. Troubleshoot design elements; implement bug fixes and iterations based on need. Implement design revisions throughout the development process to ensure design integrity. Work with the testing department throughout the project to ensure the game plays and performs as intended.
  • Takes ownership of a portion of the systems and tech as it relates to design and implementation of gameplay, either level-specific scenarios or a game system such as combat or AI, and works closely with Programming and Art departments to drive development towards the vision laid out by the Lead Designer and Creative Director.
  • Helps create and maintains living design documentation that keeps pace with the project's progress and accurately conveys all necessary information to Design, Art, and Programming.
  • Has a working knowledge of the scripting languages/systems appropriate to the engine and can create prototype gameplay with minimal Art and Programming assistance.
  • Displays leadership & organizational skills. Can guide/mentor associate designers as well as coordinate multiple disciplines working on the assigned area. Helps guide and assist Level Designers on implementation issues.
  • Associate degree or equivalent job experience preferred.
  • Must have a minimum of 5 years in the Industry in a development/design role.
  • Shipped one or more titles as a Level or Systems Designer.
  • An understanding of gameplay flow and scripting.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and deadlines.
  • Have a solid understanding of development/design tools and console technology needs.
  • Be a highly organized, detail-oriented individual who believes in open communication and departmental transparency.
  • Be able to perform set tasks, and guide others, with minimal coaching from the Creative Director & Lead Designer, Systems.
  • Know the ins-and-outs of different mission/objective scripting and AI systems.
  • Skills: Havok, Excel, Word, Maya, Photoshop, Wiki, UnrealEd 2 or 3 and other world-creation tools. Familiarity with a variety of editors and scripting languages required.
  • Have a comprehensive knowledge of game system design principles, the computer gaming industry and its products.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with programmers, artists, and other designers.
  • Must be able to meet schedules on time in a professional environment.
  • Engineering, Game systems and AI programming skills a definite plus.
  • Willing to commit to the team in terms of time & effort given.
