WB Games Inc. seeks a Senior Game Writer for the Monolith Development department. WB Games Inc. seeks a skilled game writer to work on a shared writing team. The writer should have game writing experience working directly with a development team, excellent dialogue writing skills, and the ability to collaborate and integrate feedback from the lead game designer as well as other development team members, other shared team writers, editors, and high level external writers. The position will be involved in all aspects of the development of the story, from beginning to end, working under the Lead Game Designers. The writer may be involved with recording sessions and needs to have the ability to quickly rewrite lines. They should also have strong editing skills and the ability to give detailed, written feedback on peer writing. This position supports three game development studios based in the Seattle, WA area; Monolith Productions, Snowblind Studios and Surreal Software, but is primarily assigned to one project and development team as the key voice for high quality story and writing. The position may also require copywriting for marketing materials, trailers, and cinematics.
  • Create concepts, story treatments, and pitch documents for main game story and key story moments under the supervision of Lead Designer and High-level external writers.
  • Write and revise game dialogue, working closely with game design team for gameplay requirements.
  • Write and revise cinematic scripts, working closely with the lead game designer, the high level writer, and the cinematics department as the script is developed.
  • Integrate comments from editors, designers, and development team members into various revision drafts of material, working collaboratively as a member of a team. Edit dialogue for other shared writers as needed.
  • Draft additional dialogue for other projects across WBG as needed.
  • Assist when needed with actor voice direction.
  • Collaborate with design team and shared writing team to create and maintain NPC character information, and world back story.
  • Collaborate with art team to develop fully fleshed-out characters and locales.
  • Collaborate with the shared writing services team on establishing best practices for a new department.
  • B.A. degree preferred in English, Communications or similar major, or equivalent game writing experience.
  • 5-8 years game writing experience, including dialogue, characters, treatments, and cinematics.
  • Preferably shipped at least two titles.
  • Superior writing ability including dialogue, major story beats, and cinematics.
  • High level of flexibility with regard to change in direction or rewrites.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a team of writers and with a development team.
  • Understand techniques to elicit player emotion.
  • Strong research skills and extraordinary attention to detail.
  • Excellent knowledge of writing tools and script formatting (final draft or other script writing software, word, excel, various database solutions for content).
  • Experience working with art team on cinematic development a plus.
  • Experience directing voice actors and rewriting lines on the fly a plus.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and with deadlines.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.

  • In-depth knowledge of industry trends in interactive storytelling.
